In Phase 2, estimated mean weight loss at week 48 reached 17.1% in the combined 4-mg group, 22.8% at 8 mg and 24.2% at 12 mg. Later sponsor-reported Phase 3 data support continued development, but the molecule remains investigational.
GIP/GLP-1 agonism supports glucose-dependent insulin secretion, while the glucagon component adds an energy-expenditure dimension. Trials assess HbA1c, glucose, lipids and broader cardiometabolic markers.
Weight reduction has been accompanied by decreases in waist circumference and adiposity. Proper interpretation separates fat mass from lean mass rather than treating all lost weight as equivalent.
Phase 3 programmes have also explored obstructive sleep apnoea and knee osteoarthritis in people with obesity. These outcomes belong to the studied populations and endpoints, not to a general claim for the molecule.

| Historical retinal report | 5 µg per eye | parabulbar, 10 consecutive days | Regimen described in a modern literature review; it does not establish a systemic dose for other goals. |
| Validated systemic dose | None | — | No modern dose-finding programme or approved dose exists for synthetic Epitalon. |
There is no robust clinical evidence that it extends human lifespan; telomerase biology is complex and context-dependent.

Authorizations and standards of care differ by country, and immunomodulation is not universally beneficial.
The benefits below are shown together with the actual evidence level. “Potential” does not mean proven efficacy.
RCTs evaluated thymosin alpha-1 in chronic HBV, with some signals for sustained virologic response. Results vary and current standards of care have evolved.
An RCT in HBV-ACLF reported fewer new infections and hepatic encephalopathy with Tα1, while survival analyses require careful interpretation.
Tα1 is studied for modulation of innate/adaptive immunity, including dendritic-cell maturation and T-cell function.
It has been studied as an adjunct in multiple diseases and is authorized in some countries for selected indications. “Immunomodulator” does not mean universally beneficial stimulation.
These values describe research protocols or, where stated, doses from an approved product. They are not administration recommendations and should not be extrapolated across molecules, formulations or populations.
| Study / context | Studied dose | Route / duration | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chronic hepatitis B – RCT | 1.6 mg | subcutaneous, twice weekly, 6–12 months | A common historical HBV-study regimen. |
| HBV-ACLF – RCT | 1.6 mg | subcutaneous daily in week 1, then twice weekly through week 12 | Regimen specific to that study population and protocol. |

GLP-1 influences glucose-dependent insulin secretion, glucagon, gastric emptying and satiety pathways.
GLP-1 influences glucose-dependent insulin secretion, glucagon, gastric emptying and satiety pathways.
Endogenous GLP-1 and different pharmaceutical agonists are not interchangeable; benefits and risks belong to the specific studied product and indication.
The benefits below are shown together with the actual evidence level. “Potential” does not mean proven efficacy.
GLP-1 augments insulin secretion when glucose is elevated, a central component of the incretin effect.
Native GLP-1 infusion studies in type 2 diabetes demonstrated improved glycaemia and changes in pancreatic hormone secretion.
GLP-1 slows gastric emptying and influences central satiety circuits. These effects motivated long-acting GLP-1 analogues.
Semaglutide and other GLP-1 receptor agonists are pharmacologically modified analogues. Their outcomes and doses must not be assigned directly to native GLP-1.
These values describe research protocols or, where stated, doses from an approved product. They are not administration recommendations and should not be extrapolated across molecules, formulations or populations.
| Study / context | Studied dose | Route / duration | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Native recombinant GLP-1 dose-response study | 1.25; 2.5; 5.0; 8.5 pmol/kg/min | continuous subcutaneous infusion, 7 days | Improved glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes; not mg-for-mg comparable with modern GLP-1 analogues. |
Endogenous GLP-1 and different pharmaceutical agonists are not interchangeable; benefits and risks belong to the specific studied product and indication.
The comparison places evidence strength, research field and key limitation side by side. It is not an efficacy or safety ranking.
Chromatographic purity, molecular identity, quantity, microbiological quality and stability answer different questions.

Separates components and estimates chromatographic purity. It does not by itself confirm identity or sterility.
Can confirm molecular mass and support identity. It complements, rather than replaces, HPLC.
Checks how much relevant material is actually present, not only the percentage of one peak.
Microbiological quality is separate from chemical purity.
Lot, laboratory, date, sample, method and storage conditions should be coherent.
Powder appearance does not demonstrate molecular integrity. Formulation, residual moisture, light, temperature and freeze–thaw cycles can affect stability.
Name, lot, nominal content, date, laboratory, storage conditions and product status should be coherent across label and documentation.
Retatrutide illustrates why multi-agonism differs from empirical mixing: one molecule can distribute activity across GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon, while remaining investigational.
BPC-157 and TB-500 are widely discussed for recovery, but popularity exceeds controlled human evidence. For TB-500, exact fragment identity is central.
MOTS-c and elamipretide occupy very different scientific contexts. Endogenous biology and approval of one product in a rare disease do not transfer to other goals.
Short definitions to navigate the literature without confusing mechanistic language with clinical conclusions.
A molecule that activates a receptor and initiates a signalling response.
A modified version of a molecule designed for different properties; it is not automatically equivalent to the natural form.
Data from biochemical systems, cells, tissues or animals; useful for hypotheses, not proof of human efficacy.
How a molecule is absorbed, distributed, metabolized and eliminated.
The prespecified outcome a study is designed to measure.
A measurable biological indicator; informative without necessarily representing direct clinical benefit.
Randomized controlled trial; reduces some bias and can provide stronger clinical evidence.
A compound under research; the status does not mean approval for clinical use.
Certificate of Analysis. It should be read through method, identity, quantity and traceability—not only a purity percentage.
A verifiable link between sample, lot, laboratory, date, method and analytical documentation.
No. Evidence strength must be tied to the population, product, indication and outcomes actually studied.
No. Approval applies to a precise product and formulation. Research-only material does not inherit the approved product’s quality, pharmacokinetics or indication.
