What are peptides? Structure, terminology and research context

BioHackLab introduction to peptides, peptide bonds, amino acids and the distinction between research and medical use.

Peptides in brief

Peptides are chains of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. Length, sequence, chemical modifications and three-dimensional structure influence how a peptide interacts with receptors, enzymes or other molecular targets.

One label, very different scientific contexts

The word “peptide” covers natural molecules, synthetic analogues, approved medicines, investigational compounds and laboratory reagents. A molecule name alone does not establish regulatory status, batch quality or suitability for human use.

Reading evidence responsibly

A biologically plausible mechanism is not the same as a demonstrated human benefit. In-vitro and animal data can support a hypothesis; controlled clinical studies answer different questions about effects, safety and clinical relevance.

BioHackLab context

BioHackLab separates research information from medical claims. RUO materials are presented exclusively for laboratory research without administration protocols or therapeutic promises.
